2010.08.30
THE fourth TPM Asia conference sponsored by Newark's Journal of Commerce will be held at the Shenzhen Intercontinental Hotel from October 19 to October 20 to discuss the current and future environment in the Asia-Europe, transpacific and intra-
Asia markets.

"Even given the global recovery, the container industry is still in a state of turmoil, with carriers committed
to restoring profitability and shipper still feeling the effects of slow steaming, capacity tightness, rising rates
and a shortage of containers," said TPM Asia program chair and JOC's parent company UBM Global Trade's
senior vice president, Peter Tirschwell.

The conference will look into the present supply and demand scenario, status of container availability,
estimate how the market will unfold in 2011 and address container derivatives as a tool for shippers and carriers to reduce dangers from uncertainties in freight rates, a press release from the JOC said.

Speakers at the conference are Edwin Coseteng, head of international division, IDS (member of the Li & Fung Group); Sam Lee, head of Credit Suisse' Asian transportation research; APL Ltd president Aik Meng Eng; Director of Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, Philip Damas; Morgan Stanley commodities' executive director, Brian Nixon; Clarkson Securities Limited's freight derivatives broker Benjamin Gibson; vice president - ocean, Asia Pacific, CEVA Logistics, Charlie Wellins; Kerry Teamwork Ltd's (unit of Kerry Logistics) managing director, Sean Smith; and IDS (a member of the Li & Fung Group) head of international
division, Edwin Coseteng.

The four opening keynote speakers are Evergreen Marine Corp chairman Bronson Hsieh; Morgan Stanley Asia's director and chief economist for Greater China Qing Wang; The Bon-Ton Stores' vice president for international logistics and customs, Scott C Larson; and Luc Jacobs, DHL Global Forwarding's senior VP Ocean Freight and head of global FCL business. Attendees
will include more than 75 BCOs and executives of key shipping lines, carriers, ports, terminals and 3PLs.

Another feature of the conference will be a special three-hour regulatory workshop dealing with US and Europe's container security rules, attended by a senior US Customs and Border Protection official.
