SHENZHEN is expanding its road network and plans to add 14 new highways and expressways totalling 283.3 kilometres in the next five years, Xinhua reported.

During this period, Shenzhen also plans to complete the pre-project research of another four expressways and highways and broaden some of its existing roads in the central part of the city to help relieve heavy traffic.

The city is also going to improve the coordination between the traffic network of the city and of its neighbouring regions to enhance efficiency.

There are currently 19 expressways and highways in Shenzhen, covering a total distance of 386.4 kilometres.
