CHINA's foreign trade surplus from January to Julydeclined 20 per cent year on year to US$84 billion,said Commerce Minster Chen Deming at the World

Statistics from China Customs show that import and export value in the first seven months reached $1,617 billion with exports worth $850.5 billion, up 35.6 per cent, and imports $766.6 billion, up 47.2 per cent. China has seen a trade surplus in recent years, but with a decreasing margin, and the trade surplus takes up a very small proportion of the GDP, said Mr Chen. China expects to have a smaller trade surplus by the end of the year. Its trade surplus in 2009 was more than $190 billion, down 34.4 per cent from the $290 billion in 2008.
